From tradition to tunes: Ferragosto Night 2026

At ILC, we came together to celebrate Ferragosto with a special event on Friday 21 August, that combined language learning, culture, music, and shared community spirit. It was a wonderful opportunity to explore one of Italy’s most beloved summer traditions in a lively and engaging way.

The event began with an introduction to the origins of Ferragosto, the traditions associated with it, and the essential vocabulary needed to enjoy and understand an authentic Ferragosto experience.

Participants learned key words and expressions connected to the celebration, helping bring the cultural meaning of the occasion to life. To reinforce this new knowledge, we followed with a fun quiz that let everyone test their understanding of Ferragosto vocabulary in an interactive, enjoyable way.

The celebration continued with a student performance featuring some classic Ferragosto songs, including “Sapore di Sale”, “Legata a un granello di sabbia” and “Abbronzatissima”. Their performance added a beautiful musical touch to the evening and helped create a warm, festive Ferragosto atmosphere. The energy in the room grew even more when everyone joined in singing and dancing to “Tintarella di luna” and “L’Ombellico del mondo”, turning the event into a true celebration of Italian summer music.

To close the evening, guests enjoyed a delicious buffet inspired by the flavours of Ferragosto. The table included a range of seasonal tastes and festive dishes, with watermelon taking its place as an essential part of the celebration, just as it is enjoyed in Italy during Ferragosto. It was the perfect ending to an event filled with learning, performance, food, and connection.

Ferragosto at ILC was a memorable occasion that brought people together through culture and shared experience. We are grateful to everyone who participated and helped make the celebration such a success.
