What will I learn in this course?
This course offers an in-depth exploration of Italian culture through its traditions, arts, and social dynamics, designed for students with B2+ level proficiency in Italian. Through the study of cinema, literature, music, visual arts, and contemporary cultural trends, participants will deepen their understanding of Italy’s historical and modern identity while enhancing their linguistic fluency.
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Utilise an expanded vocabulary
- Apply improved comprehension and communication skills
- Demonstrate increased knowledge and practice of different registers and styles
- Gain a nuanced appreciation of Italy’s cultural richness and its role in the broader European and global context

The program combines language practice with cultural analysis, encouraging students to engage critically with authentic materials such as films, literary excerpts, journalistic texts, and multimedia sources. Topics include:
- Regional diversity
- Family and social structures
- The evolution of Italian cinema
- Major literary movements
- The influence of art and design in shaping Italian society

- Completion of Upper-Intermediate Italian B2 Part 2 or similar
- Students with a strong Upper-Intermediate B2 or Advanced C1 level in Italian
- Can understand a wide range of demanding, longer texts, and recognise implicit meaning
- Can express him/herself fluently and spontaneously without much obvious searching for expressions
- Can use language flexibly and effectively for social, academic and professional purposes
- Can produce clear, well-structured, detailed text on complex subjects, showing controlled use of organisational patterns, connectors and cohesive devices
