From home vocabulary to restaurant dining, Carnevale costumes to Festa della Repubblica celebrations – our Sunshine Coast team had a term to remember.
Term 2 was a wonderfully busy and rewarding period for the ILC Sunshine Coast Progetto team, with a rich range of Italian language and cultural incursions delivered across the region.
From hands-on cooking activities to whole-school cultural showcases, students across the Sunshine Coast had the opportunity to experience Italian language and culture in truly authentic and engaging ways.
Here’s a look at what our team got up to:
Noosaville State School – Casa Mia & La Famiglia
Years 3 and 4 students at Noosaville State School dove into the Casa Mia program, exploring vocabulary for rooms and spaces in the home and learning to describe them using adjectives. Students practised sentences such as La mia casa è piccola (My house is small) and La cucina è grande e spaziosa (The kitchen is big and spacious) – bringing everyday Italian to life in a meaningful way.
Year 5 students then turned their attention to La Famiglia, learning to talk about family members and the activities they enjoy together. Using structures such as Mi piace andare al parco con mia sorella perché è divertente (I like going to the park with my sister because it’s fun), students built both their vocabulary and their confidence in expressing personal ideas in Italian.
Glenview State School – Carnevale with Arlecchino
Year 4 students at Glenview State School celebrated the colour and fun of Carnevale, with a focus on adjective agreement, colours, and nouns ending in –e. Using the iconic patchwork costume of Arlecchino – one of Italy’s most beloved Carnevale characters – students enthusiastically practised describing clothing while gaining a wonderful appreciation of Italian cultural traditions.
Sunshine Beach State School – From the Trattoria to the Kitchen
Students at Sunshine Beach State School enjoyed two very different – and equally delicious – Italian experiences this term.
Year 5 students stepped into an authentic restaurant experience at Trattoria Benati, where they confidently ordered a three-course meal entirely in Italian, navigating real conversations with Italian-speaking wait staff about food preferences and allergies. A truly immersive and memorable experience!
Year 4 students, meanwhile, got hands-on in the kitchen, preparing tramezzini di tonno (tuna sandwiches) by following instructions given entirely in Italian. The activity reinforced food vocabulary and imperative verbs in the most delicious way possible.
Eumundi State School – Festa della Repubblica Whole-School Showcase
To celebrate Festa della Repubblica, the ILC team delivered a vibrant whole-school cultural showcase at Eumundi State School, taking students on a journey through some of Italy’s most iconic and beloved features – from famous landmarks and statues to football, fashion, music, and traditional food.
Through engaging performances and interactive presentations, the event celebrated Italy’s extraordinary cultural heritage while igniting enthusiasm for Italian language learning across the entire school community.
A Term to Be Proud Of
Across every school visit this term, students demonstrated excellent engagement, growing confidence in speaking Italian, and a deepening appreciation for Italian language and culture. It is exactly this kind of authentic, interactive learning that makes our Progetto incursions so special – and so impactful.
A heartfelt grazie to all the students, teachers, and school communities who welcomed our team so warmly this term. We look forward to an equally exciting Term 3!
