Bringing the language to life for students at Italian Immersion Days

ILC Supporting Italian in Queensland Schools Program - Italian Immersion Days in Brisbane

From practical conversations to cultural insights and interactive learning, Queensland students are being inspired to discover Italian language and culture.

On 15 May 2026, ILC had the pleasure of welcoming a group of enthusiastic year 12 students from Stretton State College for a day focused on improving Italian spoken language skills.

For everyone involved, it was so much more than a lesson – it was a chance to step outside the classroom and experience Italian language, culture, and conversation in a real and meaningful way.

Guided by our passionate ILC teachers, the students engaged in authentic speaking practice sharing their future plans and dreams.

Experiencing Italian in Schools

As part of ILC’s Language Support Program, primary and secondary students and teachers not only have the opportunity to visit our centre for an immersion session, but also the privilege of having our team delivering authentic experiences at their schools.

All of these activities are made possible with funding for the Progetto from the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAECI – Ministero Affari Esteri e della Cooperazione Internazionale).

The Stretton State College immersion day is just one highlight in our very busy 2026 calendar. Since the start of the year, our ILC teachers have undertaken a full schedule of school visits across Queensland.

At three Catholic primary schools in Brisbane – St Anthony’s, St Columba’s, and Holy Cross students were introduced to cultural topics such as La Commedia dell’Arte and Il Carnevale.

In secondary schools – including All Hallows’ School, San Sisto College and Mount Alvernia College, students had the opportunity to practice their speaking skills in preparation of their upcoming exams, boosting their fluency and confidence.

On the Sunshine Coast, our ILC Progetto team delivered immersive programs at Noosaville State School and Suncoast Christian College, supporting vocabulary development through the topics La casa (the house) and La scuola (school).

Teaching resources and 1:1 unit planning sessions

Thanks to MAECI funding, ILC’s Progetto team also supports teachers through tailored resources and delivers pedagogical and linguistic sessions throughout the year.

Beyond the Classroom

ILC’s support goes beyond the classroom. Our Progetto team also facilitates community engagement through visits to Co.As.It. Social Group Activity centres – Casa Serena and Amici House – Community Hub – creating meaningful opportunities for cultural exchange and intergenerational interactions, with a particular focus on Italian migration to Australia part of the Australian Curriculum for Languages.

From classrooms to community engagement, every school-based activity organised by ILC is a step forward in fostering a love of Italian language and culture- as well as keeping Italian alive in Queensland schools all year round.
