We are a licensed exam centre in Brisbane for the Certificazione di Italiano come Lingua Straniera (CILS), issued by the Università per Stranieri di Siena.
CILS is officially recognised as a certification of competence in Italian by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAECI – Ministero Affari Esteri e della Cooperazione Internazionale), the Ministry of Education & Merit (MIM) and the Ministry of University & Research (MUR).
CILS tests all four (4) language competencies: speaking, listening, writing and reading, and follows the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) levels (A1–C2).

To avoid disappointment, we strongly recommend you complete a CILS practice exam prior to booking your exam to test your Italian level in all four (4) language competencies, ensuring you can confidently pass the exam level and obtain your certification.

The CILS exam is divided into six main levels in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR):
- A1 – Basic Italian: very simple words and phrases
- A2 – Elementary Italian: everyday situations
- B1 – Intermediate Italian: work, study, travel
- B2 – Upper-intermediate: academic and professional use
- C1 – Advanced: complex texts and fluent expression
- C2 – Mastery: near-native proficiency
The CEFR self-assessment grid defines the proficiency required for each level across all four (4) language competencies – speaking, listening, reading and writing.
