This week in Italian Playgroup, we celebrated La Festa della Mamma – Mother’s Day, Italian style! It was a morning overflowing with creativity, laughter, and lots of beautiful Italian words. Our little learners crafted, sang, played, and asked for their biscuits all in Italian.
Our little artists got busy with glue, colours, and all their heart to create a very special gift for their mums: “Un Tulipano per Te” – A Tulip for You. As they worked on their masterpieces, the children discovered some wonderful new Italian vocabulary: vaso (vase), stelo (stem), foglie (leaves), and of course tulipano (tulip). A perfect blend of art and language!
The fun continued with a beloved favourite – a song about the one and only Giulio Coniglio, packed with yummy food vocabulary that had the children giggling and singing along. We also paused to celebrate a very special moment: a big Tanti Auguri a Te for our friend George on his birthday!
To keep the energy going, we played a lively round of Tombola – the classic Italian game, to revise colours, followed by everyone’s favourite circle song, Giro Giro Tondo.
And to finish the morning on the sweetest note? The children enjoyed two biscuits each – but only after asking for them in Italian: “Posso avere 2 biscotti, per favore?” It was a lovely reminder of just how much these little learners are absorbing, one word – and one biscuit – at a time.
A heartfelt grazie to all our wonderful mums and nonnas for the love and support you bring to our community. Buona Festa della Mamma – you deserve it all!
